This piece was interesting to paint for several reasons. The reflections in the water are always a draw for me, but this one also had shadows from the boats on top of the water. I was a little nervous at first, how would I portray this effectively? But the secret to water is to just paint what you see.
It's my last full day here in NYC. I'm editing this post on my iPhone...which is more challenging than I expected. We did an amazing job at seeing the city in the short time we were here, and now I'm exhausted! And sore. We're taking a break now before our most anticipated activity; Newsies on broadway! So excited!
This painting is easy to explain, I painted it solely because of those gorgeous shades of green in the shadowed parts of the water.
What a beautiful weekend! Could not have asked for better weather or a more wonderful time at the much anticipated Easter service this weekend. And I'm only a little burnt from helping the kiddos with their painting project afterwards :)
Hi! I'm Sharon Schock, an artist living and working in Carpinteria, California. In 2009 I started a daily painting project where I complete one small painting each day. These paintings will be up for auction or available in my etsy shop soon after they're posted here. To be the first to know about each new posting enter your email at the top of the page.
